Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya-Every year within the month of November, an outsized number of devotees come to Delhi from various places across the country. the aim of all this is often to pay homage to the devotees of the 14th century Chisti Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya at the shrine.

About five miles south of Parliament House, this dargah is present among many historical buildings within the area referred to as Hazrat on Delhi-Mathura road. Sheikh Nizamuddin was the fourth within the tradition of the famous Chishti Peers. the primary was Muinuddin Chishti, the second Qutubuddin Bakhtiar Kaki, the third was Sheikh Fariduddin Masood Shakarganj. Sheikh Nizamuddin was a lover of Masudganj. Sheikh Nizamuddin’s ancestors came to India from the Central Asian city of Bukhara. His father’s name was Khwaja Ahmed and mother’s name was Bibi Zulikha.

He was raised by his mother thanks to his father’s death at an early age. After he was young, he was supervised by Maulana Aminuddin and Kamaluddin, Khwaja Shamsuddin of Delhi, who later became the wazir of Balban, the emperor of the slave dynasty. At the age of about twenty, Sheikh Nizamuddin visited Pakpatan and Sheikh Fariduddin Masood became a lover of Shakarganj.

After a while in Pakpatan, he returned to Delhi and began his simple life in worship. After a while his fame started spreading and his loyal fans started coming in large numbers. Many emperors, courtiers, and members of the royal dynasty were his followers.

This is evident from the very fact that a lot of members of the royal dynasty of Delhi were buried within the courtyard of his shrine. He fell ill at the age of 89 and died on 1325. His principal disciple, Amir Khusro, has called Sheikh Nizamuddin Auliya because the master of hearts. While Iqbal has written about him that ‘your love is that the lifetime of the guts , your home is above Christ and Khizr.’

His popularity are often gauged from the contemporary historian Ziauddin Burney’s ‘Tithi Ferozshahi’ by the statement that therein era (i.e. within the era of Alauddin Khilji) Sheikhul-Islam Nizamuddin had opened the doors of initiation to the masses – from sins. Toba wont to make atonement and provides him shoulder, body and make him his disciple.

The pilgrims had made platforms from various villages from the town to Gyaspur and put them on thatch, and had dug wells and put pots, bowls and earthenware there. Sheikh Nizamuddin Auliya was like Junaid and Sheikh Bayjid therein era. Amir Khusro said everything about him by writing ‘Misale Asmandar enemy and friend ki Sheikh Man Mubarak Nuskh-e Ost’ (Like the sky, my Sheikh’s shadow is on both friend and foe)
